I agree that Raymond is meh, but I'd like to see him without Busby being a dick to him, because he was forced to slide over to do color. I also agree that Busby was not the biggest problem in that booth, but his voice was still nails on a chalkboard to me. Grieve is still the worst though. I'm sure that replacement will come soon. Hope it's not Mark McLemore.

I hated the busby voice as well. And agree, McLemore would add nothing.

I've always wondered how he's stayed on for so long. He's terrible except for the train wreck factor, but that got old after the first year.

Disagree, it was different and sometimes funny. Much better than the pointless crap Emily Jones "reported" on. This isn't near as bad as when they fired Lewin but what you said reminds me of how the ranger facebook fan reacted to the Lewin firing.

Agree, it was definitely different. I didn't mind the bits, he just never seemed comfortable in the role. Maybe they should get Gordo to take his place.

I agree chemistry is lacking. Nitkowski's observations sounds like he's giving Raymond a lecture.

Yeah, I don't know all the science behind that. I'm sure Gomez would have gone farther because it was more line-drivey. Gallo's was more majestic though. Maybe because he's a lefty. I don't think I've ever seen one hit that high up there in RF.

I've seen one land in the concourse ramp up there, but never one that far above it.

The broadcast is light years better than Busby/Grieve. It's refreshing to not have two guys that sound like menopausal hags calling the games. Raymond has a smooth, Nadel-esque delivery that's easy to listen to. Last night was the first time in years I've watched a game with the sound on the tv loud enough that I could actually hear it.

Post subject:  Re: Texas Rangers 2017

This is going to be a fucking disaster.

I've never been a Dyson fan (I'm a Diek freek!), but last year he did okay. My biggest concern is that he isn't able to overpower hitters to shut down an inning and end a game. I hope this slow start isn't a sign of things to come, but I also hope that JD is already combing the league looking for a dominant closer.

And yes I'm a baseball idiot and yes I understand the argument that a "closer" isn't needed but whatever.

Author:  or somesuch [ Thu Apr 06, 2017 8:47 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Texas Rangers 2017

There is no way JD is looking for a dominant closer. They don't come cheap and the minors have been cleaned out. And if they're going for a traditional bullpenis, Matt Bush makes a lot of sense. He made a lot of sense last year when Tolleson blew up, but Dyson had the seniority and managers are big into that.

Post subject:  Re: Texas Rangers 2017

Getting a dominant closer is going to take trading one of the young guys that's starting right now: Mazara, Odor, Gallo. There's nothing in the minors to give up at this point. That would be dumb. One of the guys already in the bullpen can close. They won the division last year without a dominant closer and they didn't lose to Toronto because they didn't have one.

If we could trade Gallo for a big time closer I don't know why you wouldn't do that. We also have Profar that doesn't necessarily need to be here.

Alright. So which team is going to give up what dominant closer for Gallo or Profar? And if Gallo is the guy they want, who plays 3B until Beltre gets healthy?

I don't keep up with all 30 teams but someone is always ready to move someone. JD is a wheeler dealer, he can get it done.

Profar can play 3rd base. We have extra outfielders that can play left field.

And "we" have extra RPs that can close. I'm not opposed to trading Gallo, but his value is in the tank right now and you're not getting a "dominant closer" for him. I'd probably rather have a MORP than another bullpen piece. Should have traded him 2 years ago.

If TaG can say it, so can I!

You can say it. I don't care if you say it. I don't care if anyone says it. I think it's silly when people get upset by it.

Post subject:  Re: Texas Rangers 2017

I brought up Gallo just to drive home the point that it will take trading a guy on the big league roster to get a closer. How do we know Profar can play third? Are we assuming that because Brad Pitt told Ron Washington in Moneyball that it's easy to play out of position in the infield that it must be true?
