that's a nice lineup

With a Profar, Chirinos, Rua bench. Or play Profar at 1B or in a platoon, because Mitch isn't going to fool me twice and you can't fool me again.

I bet Corby says something similar when the hardline talks about this later today.

The best part about this is hopefully we never have to see anymore of Jared Hoying or Brett Nicholas anytime soon.

Not sure I completely trust him, but

I know there were high level Ranger folks that were incredibly reluctant to part w/ Brinson unless they KNEW they were keeping Desmond, FWIW

Here's hoping Choo can be the shot in the arm the offense needs. If he's healthy he's hitting.

Lucroy described the experience of being traded to the Rangers. I am pretty happy right about now.

Banny is going to break Dyson. You don't have to use your "closer" every time there is a save situation. You have five legit bullpen guys. Use the fresh one.

Wonder how much they save, if any. He finished with the same amount of HRs as Cecil.

Ryan Braun just tweeted his career would have lasted 6 months if not for Prince.

This is probably similar to the Albert Belle situation. They'll get most of the money back from insurance but he might have to remain on the 40-man til the contract is up. The rules may have changed since then.

Sad to hear but glad they're not dragging this out so it affects payroll. I wish Prince would have had better luck while he was here.

On the brighter side this comes out as a win/win for the Rangers, having offloaded Kinsler and now getting out from under Prince's contract.

I wouldn't call it win/win. They got one productive year from a guy in exchange for Kinsler. I know you hate Kinsler, but you're a baseball idiot and he's still a solid player. They could've gotten a lot more for him. And the insurance thing isn't so cut 'n dry. His $18M may still count toward the luxury tax so they can't just throw another $18M at other players without it affecting their bottom line somehow. The Belle thing hurt the O's for a few years, but admittedly, they were dumb.

Reports are insurance will cover half so Rangers will still owe him 9 a year till 2020. I think he will have to stay on the 40 man during the off season (Belle did) though so that hurts the Rangers for the rule 5 draft (he'll be on the 60 day DL during the season so no spot taken then).

I say bank that money and don't re-sign Desmond, Beltran or Mitch. Use it to try and re-sign / extend Yu and/or maybe Lucroy. Next year roll with Gallo at 1st, Delino in CF, DH Choo, and Profar super utility.

I get on my knees every night and thank the baby jeebus that they got rid of Kinsler and his 5 and a half game WAR and .779 OPS over the last 3 years. I mean, who needs to be saddled with that kind of productivity? The Rangers certainly would have no use for the 185 or so hits or 90 RBI he'll finish with this season.

Daniels catches a lot of shit for this trade, but I have a hard time faulting him for it. They were facing a log jam of youth in the middle infield and Fielder was assumed to be one of the healthiest players in the game at the time. I would submit the Matt Garza trade as a much bigger bowl of fuck than this one.

I can live with that lineup. The Facebook Ranger fans are gonna lose their shit if Desmond walks.

The Rangers caught a break but it'd be pretty dang awesome to have first half of 2015 Prince around all the time and he genuinely seemed like a good dude. Both Princes in the same year, what a shame.

Prince seems like a good clubhouse guy, fits in well with the makeup of the team.

Signing Desmond to a big multi-year deal would be risky. His season so far is the outlier of his career.

Desmond has had three other really good years. Last year seemed to be the outlier. I get not wanting to re-sign him though if it means losing Yu. Hope they have something else planned for center if they let him walk, because they don't have a starting CF on the roster. Delino is replacement level. I think Gallo gets first crack at 1b next year.

Agree completely. Or Ryan Dempster. Look at the year Kyle Hendricks has been having, though his peripherals don't match up with his numbers.

Kins was becoming a problem for JD so he had to go. It was probably best for both sides.

Kinsler was coming off a sub-par season for him (still solid), there was a middle infield logjam and they had a need for power at 1B/DH, as Mitch was coming off a shitty season. The trade made sense at the time. Hindsight shows it was a failure. I don't blame JD, but I don't think it can be considered win/win.

I meant that since he's hurt, rather than this dragging out for years a la Hamilton where it would cost the team serious money for a non-productive player, he is retiring. So the Rangers are getting off the hook for a LOT of money here. Obviously the best win/win scenario would be a healthy Prince knocking 40 dingers every year of his contract and helping the team win a championship.

My take: Kins got upset when JD gave Andruss an 8 year deal after only getting five. Everyone knew Profar was coming up and by signing Elvis to a long term deal it pretty much told Kins he was the odd man out. He got upset. I remember there was talk of him becoming an issue in the clubhouse. To top it off, he refused to mentor the yungins. JD had enough and pulled the trigger and got rid of him.

So you're saying that JD made a Kinserted effort to trade Ian!

See what I did there...

The Kinsler drama is nothing more than wishful thinking by the Randy Galloways of the world. They get a hard on thinking that anyone that leaves here hates JD. Remember how Michael Young hated JD and then came back to work for him after he retired? The simplest explanation is usually the right one and, in this case, there was actually evidence that there were young guys waiting behind Kinsler and that they needed a power hitting 1B and DH. All of the assumptions are just that. There's no evidence he had an issue with Elvis's contract or that he was a problem in the room. He sure was pretty buddy-buddy with everyone when he was here if he was such a malcontent.
