They already had him under control through 2018. They bought out his arbitration and the club options essentially bought out his first two years of free agency. I'm not saying you're wrong, it's just a little more complex than signing him to a 4 year deal. |

The contract also contains club options for 2018, 2019 and 2020 and I bet they get excercised. It's a hell of a team friendly deal. |

It's still a lot of money but it will be worth it if he raises the teams batting average. No way he's gonna be worth that salary in 3-4 years unless he gets in touch with Josh's dealer. |
