Baltimore plays in Tampa tonight. Could play in Baltimore tomorrow night if they win and Yanks lose. Could play in Oakland on Friday night if NYY wins that the tiebreaker game. Then back to Baltimore on Saturday if they win the play in game.

Brutal.

Nice planning, MLB.

Here's the scenarios. It's from a NoCal paper, so it's A's-centric. And it still confuses me. I still don't think I have it right in my head.

If the A's beat Texas and win A.L. West:

-- Yankees lose to Red Sox and have same record as A's: A's have tiebreaker and would be No. 1 seed in playoffs. They would open against No. 4 seed Sunday on the road.

-- Yankees beat Red Sox and finish one game ahead of A's: A's would be No. 2 seed and would open ALDS against third-seeded Detroit on Saturday in Comerica Park.

-- Orioles beat Tampa Bay and Yankees lose to Red Sox: A's also have tiebreaker over Orioles and would be No. 1 seed in playoffs. They would open against No. 4 seed Sunday on the road.

If the A's lose to Texas and finish second in A.L. West:

-- Orioles beat Tampa Bay and finish one game ahead of Oakland: A's would play Baltimore in wild-card game Friday at Camden Yards.

-- Orioles lose to Tampa Bay and finish with same record as A's: A's hold tiebreaker and would host Orioles on Friday. Winner would advance to ALDS beginning Sunday in home park of wild-card winner.

-- Orioles beat Tampa Bay and Yankees lose to Red Sox: Orioles and Yankees would play one-game tiebreaker Thursday at Camden Yards to determine A.L. East champion. A's would visit loser of Orioles-Yankees tiebreaker in one-game wild-card playoff on Friday. Winner would advance to ALDS against No. 1-seeded team, with series beginning Sunday at home of the lower-seeded team.

:babyarm: As bumfuzzling as the end of the regular season is turning out, this beats the dog fuck out of it being over by the end of April. I'm shocked at the number of people on Twitter and Facebook calling the Rangers "quitters". Good teams that quit don't finish with 90+ wins. Good teams that quit finish 25 back like the Red Sox.

Geez. I'm kinda glad today's game is away. If Dempster craps in his pants on the mound and they lose, whoever made the last out would get booed.

Young on 3rd today? The chance of winning just went to 23%.

Fuck Dempster and fuck Hamilton. It's a good thing they added the 5th playoff team this year. If things hold up here, that spot belongs to your Texas Rangers.

Sorry, I'm not happy just because they're better than they were 6 years ago, when they were eliminated at the end of April. This team is immensely more talented than those teams, so I would expect them to not be eliminated in April. Not good enough anymore. This team is failing. And I know all it takes is a win today or Friday and everything's even again.

First time for me to hear boos for Hamilton. Let him go and be someone else's headache.

The air went out of the place after Yu left. Most people around me didn't stand up again until Murphy came up in the 9th.

Don't you have 4 other teams that could sign him?

I used to want him back too if the price was right, and I guess I still do. But the price won't be right. There are two things you need from players. Production and effort. One of those is non-negotiable at all times and I'll let you figure out which one. If Hamilton had Beltre's attitude, he'd be the best player of all time.

In the last 10 games of the season including the play in game, when the team needed him most, he hit .232, with a .232 OBP (that's right, zero walks - he went back to free swinging), a .325 SLG (that sucks), with 19 strikeouts, 4 RBI and 3 runs. I'm not judging 4 years of a player based on 10 games, and I'm not going to say he "quit", but the effort was gone. The fact that media types were saying he looked and sounded relieved the season was over tells a lot. He wants to be somewhere else.
