http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-0 ... -sale.html

When I first heard about the auction I thought it sounded a little strange... doesn't closed negotiations mean that the main deal is agreed on and you just need to hammer out the details? Kind of like buying a house. You can't keep taking bids when you sign into exclusive negotiations.

What needs to happen is hammer out the deal for Greenberg/Ryan and the creditors can sue Hicks for what he lost them.

This is a frakkin mess and it's gonna end up with Ryan walking. That's the worst part about all this shit.

Contract the team. They've lost 4 straight anyway.

Ryan said before if his group didn't end up as the owner he was out.

We don't need him. Jon Daniels is doing a great job.

I would like to think that, if it were that simple, this shit would have already been put to bed.

This poor franchise has been through so much crap. We don't deserve this.

I wonder what would have happened if Houston's Roy Hofheinz had not blocked the DFW area from getting a National League team in the late 60s. Instead of Montreal getting a team, we would have gotten it. Would things have been different? Obviously there wouldn't have been the contraction thing that Montreal had. I think.

And then there was the issue of the franchise almost going to St. Petersburg in the eighties. Eddie Chiles had run out of money and the Rangers were in a little bit of trouble. Fortunately for me, Chiles found a buyer for the team who kept them here.

It doesn't matter how simple it is, once you let the lawyers in the room it gets fucked up.

It looks like the Ryan deal is all but out of the picture. Be prepared next year for the Rangers to drop back into baisbol obscurity. FUCK!

I want Greenberg/Ryan to win the bid, but it's not like Nolan is the only team President in the history of the world to be successful. It's not all doom and gloom if he's not here. The reason this team is successful right now isn't all because of Nolan. Most of the players were here before him. Hicks will be gone regardless and that is the best news.

He was an overrated pitcher and Ranger fans worship him. I've always felt he's much more of a figure-head than anything in the organization.

I always thought he was overrated as a pitcher, especially in his time here. He put up astronomical strikeout numbers but never won. He only got to 300 wins by pitching forever. His time here was brief and he spent most of it injured. Some Ranger fans act as if he got all 5000+ of his strikeouts here. And he essentially started the whole thing where a team pays a sure-fire hall of famer to wear their cap on his plaque.

For the record, I am in no way saying that Nolan sucked. Obviously he didn't.

I've never heard anyone call Ryan an overrated pitcher. I suppose Marino was an average quarterback as well? And Carl Malone was just an overrated blackie in the middle of Utah?

Not saying he's the greatest ever, just one of them.

Post subject:  Re: Greenberg/Ryna group suing Rangers

Marino got his team to the Super Bowl, so he's good. Malone I wouldn't have put in the Wilt/Kareem/Michael category either way.

Nolan won 20 games maybe twice? You can argue he was with mediocre teams, and this was before people went to the Yankees to get a ring. But I'm simply saying he's not a god like some Ranger fans make him out to be. Remember, most of them would put Rusty Greer in the Hall of Fame, too.

So if someone's overrated, that means they're average?

I'm gonna park my ass in the camp of Not Overrated Overall But Overrated by Rangers Fans. The guy is the all-time leader in Ks and walks and has the lowest Hits/9 innings ratio of any regular ever. Basically, no one could hit his shit and he would've been even more impressive if he had any control at all. He was good with the Rangers for about 2 years but fell off a cliff after that. Still, he hit his milestones here and those 2 no-hitters were huge as far as establishing his rep. But he should've gone to the HoF in an Angels or Astros cap.

i can only hope this whole debacle shines a light on the MLB and the shady way they run their operation.

Since the Rangers are the epicenter for all of the steroid stuff, it would be great if they were responsible for bringing down the MLB evil empire.

The auction happens tomorrow. Unfortunately, it sounds like this will be far from the end of the ordeal, even if Greenberg-Ryan pulls it off. I don't fucking care at this point. I'm not sure I want all of the drama that follows Cuban around to be associated with the Rangers.
