And now we get this:

Jeff Wilson ‏@JeffWilson_FWST 50s51 seconds ago

#Rangers have no interest in bringing back C.J. Wilson, who reportedly has been made available by the Angels.

He would be fine here as long as we don't use him in any playoff or all star games. Or any game that we actually needed to win.

Oh, and having him pitch in Anaheim is out, too. He'd fold up pitching in front of his "old" team.

According to Uproxx Sports, it appears that Brandon McCarthy has Photoshopped himself wearing a Dodgers uniform.

He's a good dude. He and his hot wife and both hilarious on Twitter. The Dodgers paid him way too much but I hope he does well anyway.

I would hope the "talk" went something like this:

Angels: "So, JD, how's it going? Ever thought about getting the band back together? We were thinking maybe Josh would do better back in Texas. Whattaya say? Hell, we'll even pick up 1/3 of his contract money."

JD: "HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA"

Angels: "Okay, then. Welp, see ya later!"

JD: "HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA"

Marlon Byrd traded to the Reds. In my mind, I always wrongly associate him with the bad old days of the Rangers.

I love the Oregon Trail meme. This one was on Twitter tonight.

My first time ever playing Oregon Trail ended up being eerily like the 2014 Rangers season:

Post subject:  Re: Offseason Discussion Thread

Two coaches are already out after this season: Bullpen coach Andy Hawkins and hitting coach Dave Magadan.

Hawkins wants to be a pitching coach somewhere, and Magadan wants to live closer to home.

As I get older, I wonder how much that hitting coaches at the MLB level even matter with today's players.

Post subject:  Re: Offseason Discussion Thread

Dunno how hitting coaches matter, but someone believes they do cuz some teams are now adding a 2nd hitting coach to their staffs.

I guess it matters to the Rangers, too. Because PADMY is being considered as a possibility.

Yankees got rid of their hitting coach, too. This is from one of the team's beat writers:

Way I remember it, the beat writers were told Jeff Pentland wanted to introduce himself to the group. It was very early in spring training — first week or so — and Pentland hadn’t said much, but he knew the drill. So all the writers gathered in the middle of the clubhouse for an impromptu interview. We’d introduced ourselves individually, but this was Pentland’s first lengthy, on-the-record conversation with the whole group.

His central message was this:

“I’m only a good hitting coach if we have good players,” Pentland said. “I’m not a fool thinking I’m better than the players. It takes talent. I can give them a little bit of direction, and a lot of times you stay out of their way. My biggest job is trying to keep the slumps and the bad times to a minimal, and sometimes you don’t always have the answers.”

Pretty much sums up what hitting coaches do.

Well, I didn't see that coming. Didn't he get interviewed for manager just a year ago?

Were there any rumors about this? Does Bannie have someone he wants to bring in?

Word is they offered him an extension. He wanted to listen to other offers (not necessarily accept one). They decided to go ahead and move on.

Post subject:  Re: Offseason Discussion Thread

Sounds like this was mostly a timing issue. He coached the staff through the lowest ERA's in the ballpark's history. It seems like a lot of young guys that came up in recent years struggled, but that would be hard to pin on him since most were moved up earlier than they should have been.

The Morning News is running a story that says that Banny wanted his own guy as hitting coach. I don't have a big problem with that.

Maddux to the Nationals, teamed with reputed arm-ruiner Dusty Baker.

Heard JD on the Fan a couple of days ago and he echoed the timing thing about Maddux. Makes sense to me, and I believe him. However, here is an odd Tweet:

The #Nats have been luring Mike Maddux for weeks. He was going to be their pitching coach no matter who was manager. http://usat.ly/1NsEFJF

This is strange.

Gerry Fraley ‏@gfraley 3m3 minutes ago

Guessing Scott Boras played role in Mike Maddux to Nats. Boras is tight with Madduxes and has clients Scherzer and Strasburg in rotation.

Wouldn't surprise me if Maddux was a little miffed after being snubbed for the skipper spot.

Post subject:  Re: Offseason Discussion Thread

Seeing as how he's been interviewed for multiple manager openings over the years and never landed one, I would assume he's content to be a pitching coach or not skipper material.

I see that the Yankees have traded four prospects to the Cincinattis for Aroldis Chapman. I think he wore 46 for Cincy. Tit, is that one retired?

Post subject:  Re: Offseason Discussion Thread

That's Pettitte's number and they just retired it. I love the bullpen as it currently sits, but Chapman's got a forthcoming suspension and it's gonna be hard to root for that sumbitch.

It appears that the Rangers are testing the waters for trading Dutch Oven Holland. In my eyes, this is good management by JD. If they get something good for him, good. If they have to keep him, I won't complain.

I think this is a money-saving thing, though.

Mitch is going to the Red Sux, and I am fine with that. Enjoy the spurts of home runs you fuckers, followed by months of nothing.

In other news, I broke a co-worker's heart today by telling him that Moreland might be going to the Blue Jays. I am not a nice person sometimes.

Post subject:  Re: Offseason Discussion Thread

I liked Mitch, especially his defense. He just couldn't string together anything on offense.

The Sox are going all in with the Sale trade. I feel better knowing the Rangers didn't give up that much for him.

Author:  Tit Whistle [ Tue Dec 06, 2016 10:35 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Offseason Discussion Thread

He'll hit .320 with 35 HRs and finish top 3 MVP for the Sux due to their special "strength conditioning" program. He'll turn that into a 5 year/$100M deal with the Angels where he'll average .215 and 12 HRs over 2 years before they eat what's left of the contract so he can go play in Japan.
