Way to miss my point and focus on one small part of it. The point was not that the Rangers have to go after Cliff Lee or that every WS team has exactly 1 bad contract. It's to not be a pussy when it comes to big trades or big contracts. Great teams take chances.

That said, if a good deal isn't out there, I wouldn't begrudge them for standing pat either. I'm just not going to go crazy over a prospect if he can get them a hammer at the front of the rotation (which they don't have).

Arizona said they're not trading Upton this season.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Beltre be a bad contract in 2016. But he's worth it now.

I saw these stats in a comment on LSB, I think O-Swing is swings at pitches out of the strike zone and Z-Swing is in the zone:

Josh Hamilton:
•Currently leads the majors in O-Swing % (46.4%, league average is 38.0%).
•Currently leads the majors in Z-Swing % (84.8%, league average is 64.4%).
•Is currently 2nd in the majors in Swing % (59.5%, Delmon Young leads league at 60.0%, league average is 45.7%).
•Is currently 5th worst in the majors in O-Contact % (52.5%, Adam Dunn is worst at 44.8%, league average is 67.3%)/
•Is currently 6th worst in the majors in Z-Contact % (78.1%, Napoli (gulp) is worst at 74.1%, Cruz is 4th worst at 77.8%, league average is 87.3%).
•Is currently worst in the majors in Contact % (65.0%, league average is 80.0%).
•Is being thrown fewer pitches in the strike zone than any batter in the majors (34.2%, league average is 45.1%).
•Is leading the majors in Swinging Strike % (19.8%, and second place is 14.9% (!!!!!!) league average is 8.9%).

this also was a good comment:

Michael Young is being thrown more strikes (51.9%) than every hitter in baseball except for Marco Scutaro.
Pitchers clearly fear him.

Young is fucking terrible. The other day when Padilla hit Beltre in the head, my first thought was it was intentional. Then I thought that was a terrible place to give Texas a runner. Then Face walks up and grounded it weakly to SS and I realized I should have stuck with my first thought.

LSB is my favorite Ranger related writer to follow on Twitter. He draws a whole lot of hatred his way with his little doses of reality.

And I thought the same thing when Padilla dinged Beltre. Young has to go.

stupid trade deadline tweets that made me laugh:

I can't get to it on my work computer, but that resulted in a tweet that Face should ride said bear off into the sunset. Which resulted in some funny photoshop gold.

Jerry Crasnick says the Marlins are looking for team's top 2 or 3 prospects in return for Josh Johnson. What a bunch of bullsh.

Per TR Sullivan, Milwaukee wanted Olt and Texas said no. So if Miami's asking price for Johnson is accurate, nothing's happening there.

Ken Rosenthal now saying Brewers didn't insist on Profar or Olt, but the entire package they wanted from Texas (with Martin Perez being the main guy) was too much for JD.

The HSOs at last articulated and posted, his rage began to give way to a sense of peace and well being which permeated throughout his entire being. Finally, sleep would come. It was now 4:53 in the a.m.

Looks like the Rangers are out on every available starter. While I guess I'm ok with that, I don't see this rotation being good enough. Even with Colby, I didn't see it. See you in 2013.
