Yeah, I was wondering about that Yoshi bit since I saw they called up Perez. It's great to see the Rangers call up a promising young pitcher so Wash can sit him on the bench 95% of the time in a long relief roll. Option well used, my friend.

It's why I didn't want Olt called up when Moreland went on the DL. 15 games and Olt would probably play in 4-5 of them, maybe pinch hit in another 1-2. And use an option on top of that. Speculation is that Perez will start though. Even still, it will only be 2 starts before Holland comes back.

A staged conversation about moves made in the ass end of the Rangers bullpen. How do we come up with such scintillating drama?

Perez is taking Colby's spot, who is headed to the DL. Feldman starts Thursday, so I guess Perez is going to the pen.

Christ, 3 starters down. So it's Dravish, Harrison, Oswalt, Grimm and Martin. What's Dustin Nippert up to these days?

This is what they get for last year. I don't think they lost any starters to injury did they, at least not any DL stays? I guess the silver lining for this last one is that it's not his hip.

All this baseball talk makes me miss Stu.

19 swinging stikes last night.

So Greinke trade talk seems to be starting up again. I see people saying it might cost Harrison and Olt and maybe another prospect. For a half a season of Greinke? No thanks.

I'm not sure Greinke gives you more than Harrison at this point (even though i do think Greinke is a much better pitcher) so I don't understand the Olt + prospect on top of Harrison. If you want to talk prospects only (Olt included who's pretty much blocked for 4+ years), I'm listening.

Harrison's "hurt" too. Darvish's time is coming. He's throwing way more pitches than he ever has. Colby said he only needed to miss one start, but they went ahead and DLed him to be safe.

This morning The Musers said Yu would occasionally throw upwards of 130 pitchers in Japan, confirm/deny.

They would know better than I, but he's getting more starts here than he did there. He did pitch 232 innings in Japan last year though (per Bob, mostly in domes and I don't know the pitch per inning difference) and he's only on pace for 205 here, so you've caught me in a lie.

Hoob hates trading all prospects though.

Fangraphs has Greinke at a 3.6 WAR (2nd among pitchers) and Harrison at a 2.1 (highest among Rangers and 16th among pitchers), which is still pretty good. WAR isn't perfect, but it's a good indicator of how good a player has been. Greinke's free after this year, though I'd rather see them make a mega run this year than to sit on what they have, especially considering the farm system is stacked and most of those won't work out anyway. Plus, there's no rule that says they can't re-sign Greinke. I'd pretty much let them name their prospects (minus Profar) though. Again, Olt is blocked and they apparently don't want to move him to 1B, so I think this is the time to trade him. If the Rangers got Greinke and held onto Harrison, they'd have to move him or Dutch, Colby or Oswalt into the pen for the season and 2 of them into the pen for the playoffs. Assuming all are healthy, which right now looks like a big assumption. In conclusion, I don't know.

CC and Pettitte to DL today. Expect the Yanks to jump into the Greinke action.

From the Rangers' website:

Matt Hicks, radio announcer for the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks, is joining Eric Nadel on the Rangers broadcasts for an indefinite period time while Steve Busby is on television. Busby is filling in for Dave Barnett, who is on a medical leave of absence.

Hoob's take on this: Good.

We said we wanted him to start not sit in the bullpen in a long relief roll. As usual you couldn't be further from the truth.

Barnett out for the year.

This is a sign. The baseball gods have been angered over the firing of Lewin. How many more people have to be struck down before you listen, Nolan???

Hey Oswalt, remember earlier in the year when you were on the couch watching other pitchers struggling and thinking to yourself "Man, I can't believe no one signed me. I'm better than that guy!"?

Yeah.
