Post subject:  Re: Questions

Hello people of the forum. As most of you know, I'm getting shitcanned from the workplace this year. On March 30, my ass hits the bricks. So I've been interviewing and stuff and there's a company that's about to make me a fair offer. Problem is they're kinda shitty. They work out of a shitty building in a shitty area of North Dallas and they'll make me wear shitty khakis everyday. I don't really wanna work there. If I did, I'd probably leave within a year. I got other irons in the fire with companies that give me big bonerz but there's no guarantee I'll get offers from any of them. I really wanna roll the dice and wait for someplace I'll enjoy working at but that could always backfire and next thing you know you got a 3-month contract with the City of Little Elm. What should I do?

Signed,
Worried in Wylie

Post subject:  Re: Questions

I’d go ahead and take the shitty khakis job with the intent to quit if one of the more desirable ones come through because a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush or something.

Now that that’s settled, I would spend the rest of my time obsessing over the more desirable options. I would fantasize equally among them all, picturing myself excelling in a variety of ridiculous work scenarios with each of these companies as a version of myself I’ve never actually been. I’d get so wrapped up in these mental games I’d believe them, but in the back of my head I’d know I was full of shit.

With each passing day of radio silence from the better options, I would begin to rationalize to myself on their behalf until I would get panicked and whip my spouse to no end with gobs of desperate questions about what could be going on behind the scenes. Maybe one of them would take the time with a formal rejection and put me out of my misery. I would grieve for a bit, maybe get a little indignant, come to terms with it, and finally recalibrate my fantasies to the last remaining options.

When all of those other big bonerz hopes come crash and burning around me, one by one, and those once promising irons in the fire are left in a heap of dying embers, the flaccid feeling of dejection takes over and the original shitty khakis job won’t seem as bad.

I agree with TG, forum.

Post subject:  Re: Questions

Answering tit, before I get distracted by tg's post,

In 2009, after my wife got shitcanned, she turned down an offer because she thought she had another, better offer coming. Needless to say, the better offer didn't come and I wound up being the sole provider for the next year. We had a 1-year-old, so it wasn't the worst thing in the world, but money was tight. Yeah, take the job. You can always take the better offer afterwards. Seems kinda shitty, but it's not in the Bible that you have to be loyal to employers, so you're still good with Jesus.

What tg said.

Also, the part about whipping the spouse with desperate questions hit home.

Post subject:  Re: Questions

I spoke to my old man about it over the weekend and all he said was "Wow, that's a real dilemma." So I basically got more advice from you guys than I did from own father. I will probably accept it but I hope to delay as long as I can. Shopping for shitty khakis is gonna be depressing.

And TG pretty much nailed my mindset these days.

It sucks, but you're probably doing the right thing. I don't envy you at all. I mark 20 years with the same employer this Saturday and I haven't done any serious job hunting in more than 10 years.

Take the job and bail on them the first time a better opportunity comes along. Companies are loyal to the bottom line and not to you so look out for yourself because they for damn sure aren't looking out for your best interests. Just don't change jobs so much that it makes you look flaky.

I agree with all our gay frynds. Take the job, lust after the others.

I'm in the same boat as the lovely Bigumboy, Been here 20 years in July. I've almost gotten laid off at least 5 times now.
I'm seriously not sure how I made it past this last one. The only leg up i have is that I've had the opportunity to interview potential new hires within the last 2 years. That was actually pretty ok. I learned a lot.

P.S. might I suggest to you some of the most comfortable khakis i've ever slipped over my weenar:

I got my offer and these fuckers are gonna make it hard. I get a pay raise, extra week of vacation, and bonuses. Got til next Wednesday to accept though I doubt I'll get another offer before then. Looks like it's time to shop for some of those pants Cle endorses. They do look like nice pants.

My background check cleared and I supplied clean piss so I'm official to start in 18 days. Nothing ever came of the other jobs so forum advice = spot on.

My wife begged me to go with her for years and finally gave up. I don't like people touching my feet. I have 2 jacked up toe nails and could probably benefit from a trip to the podiatrist. I rarely wear flip flops out in public and the comeback of slip on casual shoes has been life changing for me.

The jacked-up toenail seems to be a guy thing. I got one too and that's the reason I've never owned a pair of sandals. Yeah, no one cares, but I'm self-conscious about it. Slip-ons have always been in style for me. Been asked to accompany the Mrs. to the salon but I'm not going, no sir.

When you're indulging in lovesex with your betrothed and you feel a cat's paw on your ass, is that officially a threesome?

At that point you're throwing down with a couple of pussies so yeah.

I’ve just lined up all utilities for the new home except for energy. So. many. choices. Who do you all recommend? Ever heard of V247?

We go with Reliant though I doubt it matters. When the shit goes down, they're shutting you off unless you share a grid with a hospital, fire dept, or water works.

What part of this part of Texas are you moving to?

North Dallas/Forest and Preston area

Post subject:  Re: Questions

Just make sure you go through one that is through that Texas Power to Choose site (or whatever it's called) and that it doesn't have those screwy variable market rate plans. I've only ever used TXU in the 18 years or so I've owned a house. I could probably save money by moving around, but I think it's a lot like car and house insurance. You can save a little here and there by switching every few years but they all get you with a price increase eventually.

I work with a woman who lives around there. Maybe you'll be neighbors. Her name is Susan.

I use energy ogre to manage my providers. It's $10 a month but I'm sure I've saved way more than that and it's very painless. I never have to do anything and I've probably had half a dozen providers since I've started using it.

If you have a contractor over to give you an estimate on a bathroom remodel and he shits in your bathroom, would you still hire the guy?

Author:  bigboy [ Fri Feb 11, 2022 10:44 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Questions

I don't know. One part of me thinks "who better to remodel your bathroom than someone that's taken it for a test drive?" If he left behind collateral damage, that might be a little iffy.

I have to confess that I went doo doo in our current house when we were looking at it. But I will qualify it with: we had a contract on it and the realtor was outside, it wasn't vacant, but the owner had moved out a month or so prior, and it was a surprise mid-day visit from the captain (I'm pretty regular with visits in the morning and an occasional appearance after dinner.)

I once took a dump in a model home. There was no TP and the water wasn't turned on, but it was also an emergency.
