We had carpenter ants suddenly show up inside the house about a year ago. Called Terminix. They sent a guy out and we haven't had a problem since. Yes, they can do damage like termites. Keep your trees and shrubbery trim and don't let them touch the side of the house. If any branches or leaves touch the house, the ants have a route to get inside. Also keep your weep holes around your foundation free of debris to keep bugs from nesting there.

Reacher Grabber by VIVE - Suction Cup Grip - 32" Heavy Duty Mobility Aid. Part of my weekend routine is picking up trash along the road out here, and last weekend I got a handful of thorns for the last damn time. I couldn't find a hoe handle or anything else to drive a nail through, so I bought this thing. Bonus: I'll have it around the house to pick up the remote after I get really old and frail. $15 plus shipping.

I am driving nearly to damn San Angelo to cover a game this weekend. That is deer country and I want no part of it. I've had two close calls with the things at 70 mph in the past few years, and then a buck drilled the side of my SUV in broad daylight last year. Asked a couple of people who travel quite a bit what they knew about deer whistles, and they hadn't even heard of them. Decided to buy one for the Hoobmobile, then I read tonight that they don't work at all. Oops. Shit I bought but probably don't need. By Hoob.

Haven’t used the p-cooker yet but the a-fryer is on its third go. It is pretty cool.

Lately I have been cooking zucchini in my air fryer. Dip the slices in egg, then bread crumb mix, then 15 minutes in the fryer at 400 degrees while the rest of the meal is cooking on the stove. I really dig it.

Last week my Appliance of the Week Award went to the air fryer and yes, it is a Philips. Kudos go out to it for its masterful roasting of brussel sprouts & cauliflower, which really put it over the top. It also has a very pleasant hum as it cooks. This week, however, has been a whole other story as the pressure cooker (Cuisinart, btw ) is in the lead. That’s why we cook the meals folks. Do you wanna know how come it’s winning? Earlier this week you shoulda seen it dominate a pot of beets, cooking them in a fraction of the time it takes to boil those rascals. Even more impressive is the number it did yesterday on some bulk bin pintos. That’s right, dry pinto beans—typically a crock pot meal as they take all day to cook. Last night they were done in about an hour. They were deeelicious.

Anyone have a Ring doorbell or similar? I installed one this weekend. I got the wired version because I didn't want to jack with batteries. When I took the cover off of my chime I discovered the previous homeowner replaced the original wired doorbell system with a cheap wireless one. Luckily all of the wires were still in place so I spent an additional $15 on a cheap wired doorbell. Now I know way too much about doorbells, and I get a "motion detected" notice every time the wind blows the tree in my front yard.

Bird feeder holder pole and yes, it has a squirrel baffle. It holds not 1, but 2 bird feeders. One of the feeders I fill with a nice variety seed mixture and the other one is filled with safflower seeds, an alleged favorite of cardinals. Are you a birder? That's what the bird shop lady calls bird fans. I never really used to be a birder, but after perusing a nearby Wild Birds Unlimited store and making quite a few impulse buys, I guess I am now. That bird lady was quite the sales pro. She even threw in a Bird Identifier book with my purchase. My fave birds that dine in our backyard are the cardinals. The men are red. The ladies are brown and have orange beaks. Sometimes the man cards will take some seed and pass it to their lady friends in a French kissing fashion. Isn't that something? I also really like this woodpecker that comes around. He has a red head, a white chest, and his back is jet black and shiny.

Not sure of the brand name but I googled pole bird feeder with squirrel baffle and found one on Amazon. It was $100. It looks just like this and has been 100% effective against those dang squirrels. Squirrels were raiding the feeders like a mug when I had them hanging from brackets that were bolted to trees. Just don't put it in the ground too close to a tree. fellow er

I still haven't pulled the trigger on an air fryer. I'm afraid it will just be another kitchen gadget stored on the shelf. How's the cleanup on those things? How about use? Are they easier to use over a normal oven?

Finding a place for it to drip dry in my little kitchen can be a chore, but cleaning it is very easy. I had issues finding the right time and temp for stuff and finally settled on 15 minutes at 400 for almost everything. Once I got around that, it became really easy to use. On the shelf, it takes up a lot of space. Mine is large. Unzips pants

First thing I made was shrimp fajitas. Do you know what I thought of? I found out about five years ago that I loved bird feeders, but Wise County squirrels have ruined my fun. Can you give more information about this rig? Maybe a brand name or something else? The only thing I've bought that was squirrel-proof turned out to be bird proof as well. My house isn't really situated where I can shoot the bastards all the time. I bought a baffle but that didn't work out, either. I had the feeder hanging from a limb and the damn squirrels would just jump from another limb and knock the food all over the place.

When I bought my house a few years ago I picked up a cheapo hummingbird feeder at the local Kroger. I think it was less than $8. I bought a half gallon jug of hummingbird juice, too. I don't remember how much it was. I hung the feeder from the patio overhang and filled it up. It proceeded to steadily drip onto stepping stones below until it was empty. I hosed the rocks down but the grass was sticky for a while. The feeder is still hanging there, covered in cobwebs. The bird juice is in the door of the fridge in the garage. I probably need to do some cleaning around the house.
