My iPad, you read that right player players, I have an iPad,  fell off the bathroom counter this morning and face planted smack dab on the floor. Last Friday, some fucker that had cloned my debit card and managed to steal my PIN made two massive purchases in Houston and drained my checking account. My bank was Johnny on the spot and shut things down quickly. The money was back in my account by Wednesday and I had a new debit about an hour later. The real kick in the balls, other than my new card not being activated correctly and being declined at dinner that night, was having to update all of my automatic pay accounts that I had set up. I just got a new card last summer and it feels like I just finished straightening all of that shit out. |

The craziest part is that they knew to the penny how much I had in my account by doing a balance inquiry the day before. There was a declined transaction that equaled what cleared my account between the inquiry and the purchases that went through. And another galling part is that I have no idea how they got my info and the cops and the bank weren't helpful in that regard. I'll probably avoid non-bank ATMs and paying at the pump with my PIN. I did both in the days leading up to it, but they could have gotten the information months earlier. The other weird factor is that the grocery store was 2 blocks away from where my grandmother lived when I was growing up. There's a good chance I had been in there as a wee bigboy. |

It happened to us after Mrs Tit used our card at a shady- looking Sbarro at a mall in Florida while visiting my dad a few years back. Later that day there were a bunch of purchases at a Walmart 3 hours away. The bank was suspicious of it and called us about it. We got our money back but it's still a pain in the ass. |

My cousin that manages a bank branch said it was likely a skimmer/camera combo on a gas pump or a non-bank ATM. I used a shady gas station pay at the pump when I was in a hurry a few weeks ago and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened there. And Tit, I would like to commend you for admitting that you or someone in your family ate at a Sbarro. That takes courage.

I just got gas at a Circle K that served Valero gasoline, and yes, I used a credit card on account of skimmers. It was a fancy pump and had a built in tv screen smack dab in the middle of it. Isn't technology something? In addition to sports highlights from the NHL and MLB, I got to watch a snake handler serve an apparently thirsty king cobra water straight from a bottle, a pretty and fine spokeswoman telling me aboot (I think she was Canadian) a hot dog combo special to be had inside, today's word of the day which was ig·no·min·i·ous which is an adjective and means deserving or causing public disgrace or shame. Ex: "no other party risked ignominious defeat" some synonyms: humiliating, undignified, embarrassing, mortifying. After all that there was a brain teaser with two scrambled words, wheel of fortune style. It looked kinda like FELEIF WTEOR Hint: it was a place. They only gave me 8 seconds and it rattled me. It turned out to be "Eiffel Tower". Do you like the smell of 87 octane gas? I do but it was very windy and the aroma eluded me. |
