If had to compare Winston to NFL qb it would be Big Ben. Sneaky with his legs, and great decision maker late in game. And rape.

A post from Good for Another on themainboard:

My father-in-law loves trains and subscribes to Trains magazine. He had a "disagreement with the editors" and wrote them a letter about the declining content quality of their magazine and cancelled his longstanding subscription but he didn't want to miss any new breaking train news so he made a new subscription in my name to be delivered to our house, so he didn't have to go back on his word, without telling us about it. So now I have this train magazine that comes to my house and he's gonna come over and get it every month for I guess the rest of his life.

Considering that Nextdoor posting is done with irl names and addresses I'm surprised how chippy people are. Some chick posted about who to call about attic vermin and has been getting recommendations ranging from pest control people, to poisons, to fox urine. Well, this has really gotten ol' Amy from Eastwood's knickers all in a twist:

DO NOT USE POISON TO KILL VERMIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!vermin eat the bait then leave your attic looking for water and DIE elsewheres!!!!!!!! And once they DIE, other innocent wildlife eat them and then they DIE a slow agonizing DEATH from poisoning. Most likely to eat the poisoned wildlife are owls, removing from the ecosystem one of rodents' primary predators, or a cat that is possibly someone's beloved pet.

And sorry to say, fox urine works, but where do they get the urine? Yes, urine farms where animals live not so nice lives....

The following barforific post is straight from my webmail. :dead:

As sales people we sometimes tend to reflect on what people tell us. So my question to you is are you a thermometer or a thermostat?

Thermometers. You know who those folks are in your organization don’t you? Yes! The opinionated people with no solution. They just know what the temp or status is and refuse to do anything about it. It is too cold in here. The music is too loud. My office is too small. I don’t make enough money. That’s all my bonus is? You get it. Thermometers drive me nuts. All problems with no solutions and no action. Nothing gets to me more than to hear about what all is wrong, broken or not to their satisfaction with no input as to the solution.

Ask yourself, do you bring problems and solutions or are you only able to observe the current circumstances?

BUT! Then we have the thermostats. I love these people. If it is too cold, they find a jacket, too hot, they turn down the thermostat (did you get that? They control the thermostat!). No matter the situation, the thermostat can change it. Solution driven, looking for answers and results oriented. I love this!

Our mission here at *deleted is Ideas. Answers. Results. That is who we are, a team of thermostats that have no room for thermometers.

Now ask yourself, are you really a thermometer or just a broken thermostat? There is hope. Sometimes the lenses you are looking through are just too dirty. So before you start 2016, how about cleaning it up? All you can see is despair and turmoil? Time for a good cloth to wipe down those lenses.

The more I thought about it, the more excited I became. There are actually different levels of thermostats! Yes, there are the manual ones that you have to feel the difference and then adjust but then there are the smart ones. The Nest. The Nest learns and anticipates changes in the temperature and the environment and adjusts accordingly. Wow. That is a whole new level.

That is what I want to be in 2016! Anticipate where the temp and the environment is going to be and adjust accordingly! That is proactive leadership, not reactive.

Anticipate. Where will your business be? Where does it WANT to be? Find that spot in the future and head that way. If the environment around you changes, change with it! Move your target, move the pin to the new address.

Do you want job security and to protect your future? Here is a secret. Be a thermostat not a thermometer. ANYONE can check the temperature. Not everyone can appreciate the current temperature and anticipate the change and where it is going to be.

We once had an executive fly in and tell us the story about how he observed some geese flying in a V pattern, how inspiring it was, and how the organization should be like those geese. He probably gets paid 7 figures to come up with shit like that.

My reaction to it was, "fuck a duck...errrrr goose." Fortunately, the admin who trotted that one out got canned the next year.

There must be some motivational speaker retreat somewhere because I also heard this from a former CEO of a now defunct company I used to work for.
